Responsibilities of Participation

I pledge to be a good representative of the University of Texas at El Paso while participating in my study abroad program. I understand that my participation is contingent upon satisfying all conditions listed herein.

I acknowledge that I have received and understand the forms regarding registration, responsibilities, and scholarships made available to me by the Office of International Programs. The information I have provided in completing these forms is accurate, and I understand my responsibility to update the Office of International Programs should any of the information change, specifically, my location, prior to departure, during my study abroad program and upon return.

I understand that I am to be registered for a full course load and that dropping a course will have academic and perhaps financial implications. I agree to contact my Abroad Advisor prior to making any such changes in registration, either at UT or abroad.

I further understand that upon my return, my credit and grades will not be processed until I have returned to UTEP and have met with my Abroad Advisor and filled out the program evaluation forms. Additionally, I know that processing of credit generally requires one long semester for completion and I should not expect to graduate immediately upon return. My classification status for registration purposes will remain the same as at the time of departure until my credit is posted to my official University of Texas at El Paso transcript.

Likewise, I understand that payment of my UTEP tuition, program fees, and/or Affiliated Studies fees is mandatory. Any outstanding balances will delay the processing of my credit and grades.

I understand that course attendance and completion of courses is determined in accordance with the policies of the partner institution. For me to receive full semester credit at UTEP, I must complete the equivalent full semester at the host institution. The full term is determined and agreed upon by the partner institution. Negotiations are not to be made upon arrival.

I understand that I am expected to follow the regular schedule of classes and participate in them fully to the best of my ability.

I understand that professors at the host university are expected to teach, give and evaluate assignments, and provide grades for each of the courses taught and that the host university is expected to send a grade report directly to UTEP for evaluation and equivalencies.

I understand that in the event that there is a disruption of classes or the professor refuses to assess my work, that I am obligated to notify my Abroad Advisor immediately.

I understand that The University reserves the right to decline to accept or retain me in the Program at any time should my actions or general behavior impede the operation of the Program or the rights or welfare of any person. Similarly, if my conduct violates any policy or procedure of The University, I understand that I may be required to leave the Program at the sole discretion of The University's agents and representatives, and may be referred to the appropriate University officials for further disciplinary or other action. In such an event, no refund will be made for any unused portion of the Program. The right is reserved by The University, in its sole discretion, to cancel the Program or any aspect thereof prior to departure; and, in The University's sole discretion, to cancel the Program or any aspect thereof after departure, requiring that all participants return to the United States, if the University determines or believes that any person is or will be in danger if the Program or any aspect thereof is continued.

Furthermore, I understand that if at any time I withdraw, prior to or during the program, I must inform the Office of International Programs in writing immediately. Only at that time will action be taken with regards to registration and recalculation of fees. Any consequences that result from not informing the Office of International Programs of the withdrawal are to be my responsibility.
